전남도, 여순사건 77주기 맞아 ‘교육·문화 프로그램’ 집중 운영

전라남도는 여순사건 77주기를 맞아 사건의 역사적 의미를 되새기고 올바른 지역사회 인식을 확산하기 위해 다양한 교육·문화 프로그램을 집중 추진한다고 16일 밝혔다.

이번 프로그램은 청소년 대상 퀴즈 형식 학습인 ‘찾아가는 여순사건 바로알기 골든벨’, 연극 ‘1948여순’, 여순사건 추모공연 및 순천오장상여소리, 유적지 답사 등으로 구성됐다.

17일과 20일에는 여수여천중학교와 여수충덕중학교에서 청소년 125명을 대상으로 골든벨 행사가 열린다.

퀴즈 형식을 통해 학생들이 여순사건의 역사적 사실을 능동적으로 학습하고, 올바른 역사 인식을 형성하도록 설계됐다.

극단 소리는 18~19일 오후 4시 여수 파도소리 소극장에서 연극 ‘1948여순’을 선보인다.

지역 노래, 시, 안무 등을 활용해 1948년 여수의 현실과 사건의 비극적 의미를 감성적으로 표현하며, 예술을 통한 역사적 공감과 치유를 전할 예정이다.

19일 순천 여순10·19 평화공원에서는 추모공연과 순천오장상여소리 행사가 열린다.

뮤지컬 형식으로 희생자에 대한 애도를 표현하고, 유가족과 시민이 함께 참여해 기억을 공유하는 추모의 장으로 마련된다.

또한 순천YMCA와 여수지역사회연구소는 추념식과 연계해 여순사건 유적지 답사 프로그램을 진행한다.

참가자들은 현장을 직접 체험하며 사건의 실제 흔적과 의미를 깊이 이해할 수 있다.

이길용 전남도 여순사건 지원 단장은 “다양한 프로그램을 통해 함께 치유와 화해의 길로 나아가고, 희생자와 유가족의 아픔을 함께 나누는 계기가 되길 바란다.”고 말했다.

Jeonnam Province Launches Focused Education and Cultural Programs on the 77th Anniversary of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident
Golden Bell quiz for students, theater performances, memorial events expected to foster community awareness -
Jeonnam Province announced on the 16th that it will implement a series of educational and cultural programs to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident, reflecting on its historical significance and promoting accurate understanding within the local community.
The programs include the student-targeted quiz competition “Yeosu-Suncheon Incident Awareness Golden Bell,” the play 1948 Yeosu, memorial performances including the Suncheon Ojang Sangyeoso-ri, and guided visits to historical sites related to the incident.
On the 17th and 20th, the Golden Bell quiz will be held at Yeosu Yeocheon Middle School and Yeosu Chungdeok Middle School for 125 students. The quiz format encourages active learning about the historical facts of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident and aims to foster proper historical awareness among participants.
The theater troupe Sori will stage the play 1948 Yeosu at 4 p.m. on the 18th and 19th at the Pado Sori Small Theater in Yeosu. Through local songs, poetry, and choreography, the production emotionally portrays the realities of Yeosu in 1948 and the tragic significance of the incident, conveying historical empathy and healing through art.
On the 19th, the Suncheon 10·19 Peace Park will host memorial performances and the Suncheon Ojang Sangyeoso-ri event. Presented in a musical format, the performances honor the victims, allowing both bereaved families and citizens to participate and share memories in a communal space of remembrance.
In addition, the Suncheon YMCA and Yeosu Community Research Center will conduct guided tours of sites related to the incident, in conjunction with the memorial ceremony. Participants will have the opportunity to experience historical sites firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of the incident’s tangible traces and significance.
Lee Gil-yong, head of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident Support Division in Jeonnam Province, said, “We hope these diverse programs will provide a meaningful opportunity for collective healing and reconciliation, while honoring the victims and sharing the pain of their families.”
