익산시는 오는 10월 11일(토)부터 12일(일)까지 이틀간 익산 송리문화예술회관에서 ‘제25회 국창 정정열 추모 전국 판소리·고법 경연대회’를 개최한다.

이번 대회는 한국 전통음악 발전에 큰 발자취를 남긴 국창 정정열 선생을 기리고, 판소리와 고법(鼓法)의 계승·발전을 도모하기 위해 마련된 행사다.

전국 각지에서 모인 소리꾼과 고수들이 한자리에 모여 기량을 겨루며 흥겨운 무대를 선보일 예정이다.

경연은 일반부, 신인부, 고등부, 중등부, 초등부로 나뉘어 진행되며, 참가자들은 판소리 다섯 마당 가운데 지정 대목과 자유 대목을 통해 그동안 갈고닦은 실력을 뽐내게 된다.

또한 고법 경연도 함께 열려 판소리의 흥과 멋을 살리는 북장단의 진수를 감상할 수 있다.

심사위원단은 참가자들의 전통성, 예술성, 기량을 종합적으로 평가해 수상자를 가릴 예정이다.

이번 대회는 익산시와 (사)익산국악진흥원이 주최하고, (사)한국국악협회 익산시지부가 주관하며, 문화체육관광부와 전라북도가 후원한다.

익산시 관계자는 “제25회를 맞은 이번 대회는 전통 판소리의 뿌리를 되새기고, 젊은 세대가 국악의 참맛을 이어갈 수 있는 소중한 장이 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 국악의 계승과 보존을 위해 지속적으로 지원하겠다.”고 말했다.

25th National Pansori & Gobup Competition in Memory of Master Jeong Jeong-yeol to be Held in Iksan
― A meaningful stage where singers and drummers from across the nation gather to carry on the legacy of Korean traditional music ―
Iksan City announced that it will host the 25th National Pansori and Gobup Competition in Memory of Master Jeong Jeong-yeol at the Songri Culture and Arts Center in Iksan from October 11 (Sat) to 12 (Sun).
The competition is organized to honor Master Jeong Jeong-yeol, a legendary pansori singer who made significant contributions to the development of Korean traditional music, and to promote the preservation and succession of pansori and gobup (traditional drum accompaniment).
Talented singers and drummers from across the country will gather in Iksan to showcase their artistry and compete in a vibrant celebration of Korean traditional performing arts.
The competition will be divided into General, Rookie, High School, Middle School, and Elementary divisions. Participants will perform designated and free selections from the five pansori epics, demonstrating the skills they have honed over years of practice. In addition, the gobup competition will highlight the dynamic rhythms that bring out the spirit and energy of pansori.
The panel of judges will comprehensively evaluate participants based on authenticity, artistry, and technical skill to determine the winners.
This year’s competition is hosted by Iksan City and the Iksan Institute for Korean Traditional Music, organized by the Iksan branch of the Korean Traditional Music Association, and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Jeollabuk-do Province.
An Iksan City official stated, “As the competition marks its 25th year, it will serve as an important occasion to reflect on the roots of traditional pansori and to provide younger generations with a valuable opportunity to experience the true essence of Korean traditional music. We will continue to support efforts to preserve and pass down this cultural heritage.”
