전라남도해양수산과학원은 내수면 생태계 복원과 수산자원 증강을 위해 올해 4월부터 9월까지 순천시 등 도내 16개 시군 공공수면에 은어, 동자개 등 8개 품종 125만 마리의 우량 수산종자를 방류했다고 12일 밝혔다.

전남도는 전국에서 가장 넓은 내수면 수역을 보유하고 있지만, 최근 기후변화와 외래어종 확산, 수질오염 등으로 생태계 건강성이 점차 저하되고 있는 실정이다.

이에 따라 도는 내수면 토산어종 회복과 어업인 소득 증대를 목표로 매년 우량 수산종자를 방류하고 있다.

올해는 은어 27만 마리를 시작으로 뱀장어 10만 마리, 동남참게 27만 마리, 메기 27만 마리, 쏘가리 4만 마리, 자라 1만 마리, 동자개 19만 마리, 붕어 10만 마리를 지역 생태환경에 맞춰 각 수역에 방류했다.

방류된 품종은 내수면 생태계 복원과 수산자원 증강에 중요한 역할을 하고 있으며, 특히 메기는 외래어종인 배스와 블루길을 퇴치하는 천적 어종으로 생태계 균형 유지에 효과적인 것으로 평가받는다.

김충남 전남해양수산과학원장은 “도내에서 생산된 우수한 수산종자를 지속적으로 방류해 내수면 생태계를 보호하고 어업인의 소득 증대에 기여하겠다.”며, “앞으로도 지역 특성에 맞는 내수면 토산어종 복원과 수산자원 증강에 힘써 나가겠다.”고 말했다.

Jeonnam Province Boosts Freshwater Ecosystem Restoration and Fisheries Resource Enhancement
– 1.25 Million High-Quality Fish Stock of 8 Species, Including Sweetfish and Eel, Released
The Jeonnam Marine & Fisheries Science Institute announced on the 12th that, from April to September this year, it released a total of 1.25 million high-quality fish stocks of eight species, including sweetfish and dark sleeper, into public freshwater bodies across 16 cities and counties, including Suncheon, to restore freshwater ecosystems and enhance fisheries resources.
Jeonnam Province has the largest freshwater areas in the country, but ecosystem health has gradually declined due to climate change, the spread of invasive species, and water pollution.
To address this, the province has been releasing high-quality local fish stocks annually to restore native freshwater species and increase fishermen’s income.
This year, the release began with 270,000 sweetfish, followed by 100,000 eels, 270,000 Dongnam freshwater crabs, 270,000 catfish, 40,000 Korean chub, 10,000 turtles, 190,000 dark sleeper, and 100,000 crucian carp, with each species released into areas suited to their ecological characteristics.
These released species play a vital role in restoring freshwater ecosystems and increasing fishery resources. In particular, catfish are recognized as a natural predator that controls invasive species such as bass and bluegill, helping to maintain ecological balance.
Kim Chung-nam, Director of the Jeonnam Marine & Fisheries Science Institute, stated, “By continuously releasing high-quality fish stocks produced in the province, we aim to protect freshwater ecosystems and contribute to the income of local fishermen. We will continue to focus on restoring native freshwater species and enhancing fisheries resources tailored to regional characteristics.”
