전라남도는 13일 전남도립도서관 4층에서 ‘책 속에 전남의 미래가 있습니다.’를 주제로 복합 문화 공간 ‘문화마루’ 개관 기념행사를 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이날 행사에는 김영록 전라남도지사를 비롯해 윤명희 전남도의회 경관위원장, 나광국·최선국·최미숙 의원, 도내 공공도서관장 50여 명 등 100여 명이 참석해 개관을 축하했다.
개관식은 ‘히어로 벌룬쇼’와 목포시립합창단의 축하공연을 시작으로 도립도서관의 성장과 미래비전을 담은 홍보영상 상영, 2025년 출산가정 책 전달식 및 개관 퍼포먼스로 이어졌다.
또한 도내 공공도서관 4곳(순천시립신대·광양용강·여수이순신·화순열린)과 공무원 10명, 자원봉사자 2명, 다독가정에게 도서관 발전 유공 표창이 수여됐다.
특히 순천시립신대도서관과 광양용강도서관은 2024년 공공도서관 평가에서 최우수 도서관으로 선정돼 눈길을 끌었다.
‘문화마루’는 전남도립도서관 4층 유휴공간(1,252㎡)을 활용해 북카페, 커뮤니티 공간, 체험 및 전시 공간 등으로 구성한 복합문화공간으로, 총 33억 원의 사업비를 들여 약 2년에 걸쳐 완성됐다. 지난 9월 시범운영을 거쳐 이번에 공식 문을 열었다.
도서관 관계자는 “문화마루는 전시·공연·체험·커뮤니티 기능을 두루 갖춘 열린 공간으로, 지역 작가 전시, 북 콘서트, 작은 음악회, 오디오북 체험, 필사 프로그램 등 다양한 문화예술 행사를 지속적으로 운영할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.
김영록 전남도지사는 “문화마루는 책과 예술, 음악을 매개로 도민들이 서로 교류하고 치유 받는 ‘행복한 문화 쉼터’가 될 것”이라며, “책 읽는 도민이 행복한 전남을 함께 만들어 가자”고 강조했다.

Jeonnam Provincial Library Opens Multi-Cultural Space ‘Munhwa Maru’
33 Billion KRW Invested — A New Open Cultural Space Featuring a Book Café, Community Zone, and Experience Area
Jeollanam-do announced that it held an opening ceremony for its new multi-cultural space ‘Munhwa Maru’ on the 4th floor of the Jeonnam Provincial Library on the 13th under the theme, “The Future of Jeonnam Lies in Books.”
The event was attended by Jeonnam Governor Kim Yung-rok, Yoon Myung-hee, Chair of the Jeonnam Provincial Council’s Landscape Committee, Provincial Assembly members Na Gwang-guk, Choi Seon-guk, and Choi Mi-sook, along with 50 public library directors and about 100 guests who celebrated the opening.
The ceremony began with a “Hero Balloon Show” and a congratulatory performance by the Mokpo City Choir, followed by a promotional video highlighting the library’s growth and future vision, a book donation ceremony for families with newborns in 2025, and a symbolic opening performance.
Awards were also presented to four public libraries (Suncheon Shindae, Gwangyang Yonggang, Yeosu Yi Sun-sin, and Hwasun Yeollin), ten public officials, two volunteers, and one avid reading family in recognition of their contributions to library development. Notably, Suncheon Shindae Library and Gwangyang Yonggang Library were selected as the Best Public Libraries of 2024, drawing special attention.
‘Munhwa Maru’ was created by utilizing a 1,252㎡ unused space on the library’s 4th floor, transformed into a book café, community space, and exhibition/experience zone. The project cost 33 billion KRW and took about two years to complete. Following a trial operation in September, the facility officially opened to the public this month.
A library official stated, “Munhwa Maru is an open space equipped for exhibitions, performances, experiences, and community activities. We plan to host a variety of cultural and artistic events such as local artist exhibitions, book concerts, small-scale music performances, audiobook experiences, and transcription programs.”
Governor Kim Yung-rok remarked, “Munhwa Maru will serve as a ‘happy cultural retreat’ where residents can connect and find healing through books, art, and music. Let us work together to create a Jeonnam where people who read are truly happy.”
