목포시는 지난 13일 시청에서 전라남도목포교육지원청과 ‘학교자원 재활용 활성화 및 자원순환 체계 구축’을 위한 업무협약을 체결했다.
이번 협약은 목포교육지원청이 지정한 학교에서 종이팩과 폐건전지를 분리 배출하면, 목포시가 이를 무상으로 수거·재활용하는 방식으로 추진된다.
이를 통해 지역사회 환경보전과 미래세대의 환경의식 함양을 도모할 계획이다.
협약식에는 조석훈 목포시장 권한대행(부시장)과 정덕원 목포교육장이 참석해 자원 보존과 재활용, 소비 최소화를 실천하는 순환경제 사회 구현을 위해 적극 협력하기로 뜻을 모았다.
시 관계자는 “순환경제로의 전환은 지속가능한 미래를 위한 핵심 과제이며, 지방정부와 공공기관이 중요한 역할을 맡고 있다”며 “이번 협약을 계기로 목포가 순환경제 사회로 한 걸음 더 나아가길 기대한다.”고 말했다.
목포시는 협약에 따라 선정된 학교에서 배출되는 종이팩과 폐건전지를 무상 수거·재활용해 1인당 자원 재활용률을 높이는 한편, 탄소중립 실천 교육과 분리배출 캠페인 등 환경교육 활동도 함께 추진할 예정이다.
Mokpo City, Mokpo Office of Education Partner to Boost School Recycling

Mokpo City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Mokpo Office of Education on October 13 to promote school resource recycling and foster a circular economy.
Under the agreement, designated schools will separate paper cartons and used batteries, which the city will collect and recycle free of charge.
The initiative aims to enhance environmental awareness among students and contribute to community-wide environmental conservation.
Acting Mayor Cho Seok-hoon and Superintendent Jeong Deok-won pledged to work together to minimize waste, conserve resources, and promote sustainable practices.
The city will also implement carbon-neutral education programs and waste separation campaigns in participating schools.
