전라남도가 기후변화로 증가하는 대형 산불에 선제적으로 대응하고 안전한 산림환경을 조성하기 위해 23일 여수에서 ‘2025년 산불방지 역량강화 워크숍’을 개최했다.

이번 워크숍에는 전남 22개 시 군 산림재난 담당자와 산불방지기술협회 등 60여 명이 참석했다.

워크숍에서는 가을철 산불 대응 역량 강화 방안과 산불 예방·진화, 산사태·병해충 등 산림재난 대응체계를 점검하고, 우수 시군 시상도 함께 진행됐다.

올해 산불 예방·대응 평가에서는 곡성군이 대상을 차지했으며, 최우수상에는 나주시와 함평군, 우수상에는 영광군, 영암군, 고흥군, 장려상은 순천시와 해남군이 각각 선정됐다.

특히 드론을 활용한 산불 감시, 유관기관 합동 산불진화훈련, 스마트 IOT 가로등 홍보 등 산불방지 협력도가 높은 시군이 높은 평가를 받았다.

전남도는 올해 9월 산림청 주관 ‘2025년 소각산불 없는 녹색마을’ 캠페인에서 전국 최다인 64개 우수마을을 배출했으며, 유공자 11명은 산림청장 표창을 수상했다.

가을철 산불 조심기간은 10월 20일부터 12월 15일까지로 평년보다 12일 앞당겨졌다. 이에 따라 전남도는 산불방지대책본부를 운영하며, 주요 산과 등산로 사전 통제·단속, 전남산애감시원 880명, ICT플랫폼, 드론 24대를 활용한 주·야간 산불 감시, 야간 신속대응반 28개조 179명, 공중진화헬기 14대 운영 등 초동 진화를 포함한 대응 체계를 강화한다.

김정섭 전남도 환경산림국장은 “기후변화로 산불 발생 시기와 규모 예측이 어려워진 만큼 사전 예방과 초기 대응이 무엇보다 중요하다”며 “도민의 자율 참여와 현장 중심 산불예방 행정을 강화하고 유관기관 공조체계를 공고히 해 ‘산불 없는 안전한 전남’을 만들겠다.”고 말했다.

전남도는 앞으로도 초고속·대형 산불 대비 산불진화통합훈련(10월 30일), 시군 전문 진화대원 진화 능력 향상을 위한 산불진화경연대회(11월 14일) 등을 추진하며, 도민과 함께 안전한 산림환경 조성에 나설 계획이다.

Jeonnam Province Strengthens Wildfire Response to Ensure “Fire-Free Safe Jeonnam”
Enhancing wildfire response capabilities, reviewing forest disaster prevention systems, awarding outstanding cities/counties, and operating a countermeasures headquarters until December 15
Jeonnam Province held the 2025 Wildfire Prevention Capacity Enhancement Workshop in Yeosu on October 23 to proactively respond to the increasing risk of large-scale wildfires caused by climate change and to promote a safe forest environment.
The workshop was attended by more than 60 participants, including forest disaster officials from all 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam and members of the Wildfire Prevention Technology Association.
During the workshop, participants discussed strategies to strengthen autumn wildfire response capabilities and reviewed the province’s systems for wildfire prevention and suppression, landslide and pest management, and other forest disaster responses. Outstanding cities and counties were also recognized for their efforts.
In this year’s wildfire prevention and response evaluation, Gokseong County received the top award. Naju City and Hampyeong County were named runners-up, while Yeonggwang County, Yeongam County, and Goheung County received excellence awards. Suncheon City and Haenam County received commendation awards.
Cities and counties that effectively utilized drones for wildfire surveillance, conducted joint firefighting drills with related agencies, and promoted wildfire prevention through smart IoT streetlights received higher scores for their collaboration in wildfire prevention.
In September, Jeonnam Province also led the nation by producing 64 outstanding villages in the 2025 “Green Villages Without Open Burning” Campaign hosted by the Korea Forest Service. Eleven individuals were recognized with awards from the Korea Forest Service.
This year’s autumn wildfire precaution period runs from October 20 to December 15, 12 days earlier than usual. To strengthen wildfire response during this 57-day period, Jeonnam Province is operating the Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters, implementing measures including preemptive control and monitoring of major mountains and hiking trails, utilizing 880 forest rangers, ICT platforms, and 24 drones for round-the-clock surveillance, and deploying 28 rapid-response night teams (179 personnel) along with 14 aerial firefighting helicopters to ensure immediate initial suppression.
Kim Jeong-seop, Director of the Jeonnam Provincial Environment and Forestry Bureau, stated, “Due to climate change, the timing and scale of wildfires have become increasingly unpredictable, making prevention and early response more critical than ever. We will strengthen on-site wildfire prevention administration and public participation, while reinforcing cooperation among relevant agencies, to achieve a fire-free and safe Jeonnam.”
Looking ahead, Jeonnam Province plans to conduct the Integrated Wildfire Suppression Drill on October 30 to prepare for rapid and large-scale wildfires, and the Wildfire Suppression Competition on November 14 to improve the firefighting capabilities of specialized city and county teams, further promoting a safe forest environment in collaboration with local residents.
