제9회 전국동시지방선거를 앞두고 더불어민주당 여수시장 경선에 나선 후보들이 정책 중심의 깨끗한 경선을 약속하는 ‘공명선거 실천 서약’에 나선다.

더불어민주당 여수시 갑·을 지역위원회는 15일 오후 3시 30분 여수시청 본관 현관 앞에서 여수시장 경선 후보 7명이 참여하는 ‘공명선거 실천 서약식’을 개최한다고 밝혔다.

이번 서약식은 경선 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 과열 경쟁과 갈등을 사전에 차단하고 정책 중심의 공정한 경쟁 문화를 확립하기 위해 마련된 자리다.

이날 행사에는 김순빈, 김영규, 백인숙, 서영학, 이광일, 정기명, 주종섭(가나다 순) 더불어민주당 여수시장 경선 후보들이 참석해 공동 서약을 진행한다.

후보들은 서약서를 통해 허위사실 유포, 금품 살포, 후보자 비방, 흑색선전 등 공명선거를 저해하는 모든 행위를 하지 않을 것을 공식 약속하기로 했다.

또한 더불어민주당 경선 후보자로서 당헌·당규를 준수하고, 깨끗하고 공정한 정책 경쟁을 통해 시민 앞에 당당한 경선을 치르겠다는 의지를 밝혔다.
특히 서약서에는 경선 결과에 승복하고 제9회 전국동시지방선거에서 타 정당이나 무소속 후보로 여수시장·여수시의원·전남도의원 선거에 출마하거나 지원하지 않겠다는 내용도 포함되었다.

지역 정치권에서는 이번 서약식이 경선 과정의 불필요한 갈등을 최소화하고 시민에게 신뢰받는 선거 문화를 만드는 계기가 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

더불어민주당 관계자는 “경선은 상대를 공격하는 과정이 아니라 더 나은 정책과 비전을 시민에게 제시하는 경쟁의 장이어야 한다.”며 “이번 공명선거 서약을 통해 여수 정치가 한 단계 성숙하는 계기가 되길 바란다.”고 말했다.

한편 이번 서약식은 오는 지방선거를 앞두고 지역 정치권이 공정하고 책임 있는 선거 문화를 확립하기 위한 상징적인 행사로 평가되고 있다.

Ahead of the 9th Nationwide Local Elections, candidates running in the Democratic Party’s Yeosu mayoral primary have pledged to conduct a clean, policy-centered primary through a “Fair Election Pledge Ceremony.”
The Democratic Party’s Yeosu Gap and Eul Regional Committees announced that the Fair Election Pledge Ceremony involving seven Yeosu mayoral primary candidates will be held at 3:30 p.m. on the 15th in front of the main entrance of Yeosu City Hall.
The ceremony is intended to prevent excessive competition and conflicts during the primary process and to clearly establish a culture of fair competition centered on policy.
The event will be attended by Democratic Party Yeosu mayoral primary candidates Kim Soon-bin, Kim Young-gyu, Baek In-sook, Seo Young-hak, Lee Gwang-il, Jeong Gi-myeong, and Joo Jong-seop (listed in alphabetical order), who will jointly sign the pledge.
Through the pledge, the candidates will formally promise not to engage in any acts that undermine fair elections, including the spread of false information, vote-buying, personal attacks against candidates, and smear campaigns.
They also expressed their commitment to abide by the Democratic Party’s constitution and rules and to participate in a clean and fair policy competition before the citizens.
In particular, the pledge includes a commitment to accept the results of the party primary and not to run for or support candidates for Yeosu mayor, Yeosu City Council, or Jeonnam Provincial Council under other parties or as independents in the 9th Nationwide Local Elections.
Local political circles expect that the ceremony will help minimize unnecessary conflicts during the primary process and contribute to building an election culture trusted by citizens.
A Democratic Party official stated,
“A primary should not be a process of attacking opponents, but a platform for presenting better policies and visions to the citizens. We hope this fair election pledge will serve as an opportunity for Yeosu politics to take a step forward in political maturity.”
Meanwhile, the ceremony is being viewed as a symbolic event aimed at establishing a fair and responsible election culture in the region ahead of the upcoming local elections.
