기후에너지환경부 산하 국립호남권생물자원관(관장 박진영)이 도서·연안 생물자원의 산업적 활용 확대를 위해 한국식품연구원과 손을 맞잡았다.

국립호남권생물자원관은 지난 19일 한국식품연구원에서 도서·연안 야생생물 소재의 식품 및 기능성 산업화를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 우리나라 섬과 연안에 서식하는 다양한 생물자원의 지속가능한 활용 가치를 높이고, 이를 미래 식품·바이오 산업과 연계하기 위해 마련됐다.

양 기관은 기능성 소재 발굴부터 연구개발, 기술이전, 산업화 지원까지 전 과정에 걸친 협력체계를 구축해 나갈 방침이다.
협약에 따라 양 기관은 ▲도서·연안 야생생물의 기능성·바이오 소재 활용 및 사업화 ▲생물 소재 정보 공유 및 품질관리 기술 교류 ▲공동 연구개발(R&D) 사업 발굴 및 기획 ▲연구 기반시설(인프라) 공유 및 인적 교류 ▲기술이전 및 산업화 지원 등에 협력하게 된다.

특히 국립호남권생물자원관이 보유한 도서·연안 생물자원과 한국식품연구원의 고도화된 식품 가공·평가 기술이 결합되면서, 고부가가치 기능성 식품 개발과 바이오 산업 기반 강화에 시너지 효과가 기대되고 있다.

양 기관은 이미 지난 2023년부터 국가생명연구자원 선진화 과제를 공동 수행하며 협력 관계를 이어오고 있으며, 이번 협약을 계기로 연구 협력을 더욱 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

박진영 국립호남권생물자원관장은 “이번 협약은 섬과 연안의 생물자원이 가진 가능성을 식품 산업으로 확장하는 중요한 전환점이 될 것”이라며 “한국식품연구원과 긴밀히 협력해 국민이 체감할 수 있는 연구 성과를 만들고 생물 산업 활성화에 앞장서겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Full-scale cooperation on industrialization of wild biological resources… Joint efforts from functional discovery to technology transfer and commercialization
The National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea under the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment has joined hands with the Korea Food Research Institute to expand the industrial utilization of island and coastal biological resources.
The National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Food Research Institute on May 19 to promote the food and functional industrialization of wild biological resources from islands and coastal areas.
The agreement was designed to enhance the sustainable utilization value of diverse biological resources inhabiting Korea’s islands and coastal regions and to connect them with future food and bio industries.
Under the partnership, the two institutions plan to establish a comprehensive cooperation system covering the entire process from the discovery of functional materials to research and development, technology transfer, and industrial commercialization.
According to the agreement, both organizations will cooperate in areas including ▲the utilization and commercialization of functional and bio materials derived from island and coastal wild organisms ▲sharing biological resource information and exchanging quality control technologies ▲discovering and planning joint R&D projects ▲sharing research infrastructure and promoting personnel exchanges ▲supporting technology transfer and commercialization.
In particular, the collaboration is expected to generate synergy by combining the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea’s extensive island and coastal biological resources with the Korea Food Research Institute’s advanced food processing and evaluation technologies, thereby strengthening the foundation for high-value functional food development and the bio industry.
The two institutions have already maintained close cooperation since 2023 through joint participation in national bio-resource advancement projects, and they plan to further expand collaborative research through this agreement.
Park Jin-young, President of the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea, said, “This agreement will serve as an important turning point in expanding the potential of island and coastal biological resources into the food industry,” adding, “We will work closely with the Korea Food Research Institute to deliver research outcomes that the public can truly experience and to take the lead in revitalizing the bio industry.”
