해남공업고등학교의 ‘AI 산업 중심 마이스터고등학교’ 지정을 위한 교육부 현장 실사가 20일 오후 3시 해남공업고등학교에서 진행되며, 해남 미래 산업 인재 육성의 중대한 분수령이 될지 주목된다.

이번 현장 실사는 교육부가 추진하는 마이스터고 지정 절차의 핵심 과정으로, 해남군과 해남공고가 준비해 온 미래형 산업교육 체계와 지역 산업 연계 전략 전반을 종합 평가하는 자리다.

해남군과 해남공고는 지난 2월 교육부에 마이스터고 지정 신청서를 제출한 이후 지역 특화 산업과 연계한 미래형 기술인재 양성 모델 구축에 집중해 왔다.

양 기관은 마이스터고 유치를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결하고 군민 설명회를 개최하는 한편, 해남군 총무과와 에너지산업과, 해남군 교육재단 등이 참여한 실무 협의를 지속적으로 이어오며 체계적인 준비에 나섰다.

특히 해남공고는 교육과정 개편과 사전 컨설팅 등을 통해 AI·에너지·데이터 산업 중심의 특성화 교육 체계 구축에 속도를 내며 이번 평가에 만전을 기해왔다.

이번 마이스터고 전환 추진은 최근 해남이 국가 미래 전략산업 중심지로 급부상하고 있는 흐름과도 맞물려 더욱 관심을 끌고 있다.

해남 솔라시도에는 국가 AI컴퓨팅센터 유치가 확정됐으며, 향후 RE100 국가산업단지 조성과 에너지 자립도시 구축 등 대규모 국책사업이 연이어 추진될 예정이다.

이에 따라 지역 산업 생태계를 뒷받침할 AI·반도체·재생에너지·스마트 농수산업 분야 전문 인재를 지역에서 직접 양성해야 한다는 필요성이 커지고 있다.

더불어민주당 명현관 해남군수 후보는 공식 선거운동 기간 군수 권한대행 체제로 전환되면서 이번 실사 현장에는 참석하지 못했지만, 부군수를 비롯한 관계 공직자들과 군민들의 적극적인 관심과 응원을 당부하며 해남 교육 대전환의 필요성을 강조했다.

명 후보는 “AI 대전환 시대에는 단순한 산업 인프라 구축만으로는 지역 경쟁력을 확보할 수 없다”며 “미래 산업을 이끌 핵심 인재를 지역에서 직접 키워내는 교육 체계 구축이 반드시 필요하다.”고 밝혔다.

이어 “마이스터고 전환을 반드시 성공시켜 AI와 에너지, 반도체, 데이터 산업은 물론 스마트 농수산업까지 아우르는 미래형 전문 인력 양성 기반을 구축하겠다”며 “청년들이 일자리를 찾아 떠나는 도시가 아니라 해남에서 배우고 일하며 안정적으로 정착하는 선순환 구조를 만들어 가겠다.”고 강조했다.

또 “첨단 AI 산업과 재생에너지, 미래 교육이 함께 성장하는 대한민국 서남권 최고의 미래 산업 중심지 해남의 새로운 시대를 차질 없이 열어가겠다.”고 밝혔다.

“Turning Point for Haenam’s Next 100 Years of Education”… On-Site Evaluation for Haenam Technical High School’s Designation as an ‘AI Industry Meister High School’
Future talent development linked to the National AI Computing Center and RE100 Industrial Complex gains momentum… “Building Haenam into an industrial city where young people return and settle”
An on-site evaluation by the Ministry of Education for the designation of Haenam Technical High School as an “AI Industry-Centered Meister High School” was held at 3 p.m. on the 20th at the school, drawing attention as a potential turning point in fostering future industrial talent in Haenam.
The evaluation is a key step in the Ministry of Education’s Meister High School designation process, comprehensively assessing the future-oriented industrial education system and regional industry linkage strategies jointly prepared by Haenam County and Haenam Technical High School.
Since submitting its application for Meister High School designation in February, Haenam County and the school have focused on establishing a future-oriented technical talent training model linked to regional specialized industries.
The two institutions signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the promotion of the Meister High School initiative, held public briefing sessions for residents, and continued practical consultations involving the county’s General Affairs Division, Energy Industry Division, and Haenam Education Foundation to ensure systematic preparation.
In particular, Haenam Technical High School has accelerated the establishment of a specialized curriculum centered on AI, energy, and data industries through curriculum reform and preliminary consulting, making thorough preparations for the evaluation.
The push for the school’s transformation into a Meister High School is drawing even greater interest as Haenam rapidly emerges as a national hub for future strategic industries.
The Solaseado area in Haenam has already secured the National AI Computing Center project, while large-scale national initiatives such as the RE100 National Industrial Complex and the development of an energy self-sufficient city are expected to follow.
As a result, the need to cultivate regional experts in AI, semiconductors, renewable energy, and smart agriculture and fisheries directly within the region is growing increasingly urgent to support the local industrial ecosystem.
Myung Hyun-kwan, the Democratic Party candidate for Haenam County governor, was unable to attend the evaluation due to the transition to an acting county administration system during the official election campaign period. However, he called for strong interest and support from local officials and residents, emphasizing the importance of educational transformation in Haenam.
Candidate Myung stated, “In the era of AI transformation, simply building industrial infrastructure alone is not enough to secure regional competitiveness,” adding, “It is essential to establish an education system that directly nurtures key talent capable of leading future industries within the region.”
He continued, “We will successfully transform the school into a Meister High School and establish a foundation for training future-oriented professionals not only in AI, energy, semiconductors, and data industries, but also in smart agriculture and fisheries,” adding, “We will create a virtuous cycle in which young people no longer leave in search of jobs, but instead study, work, and settle stably in Haenam.”
He also emphasized, “We will steadily open a new era for Haenam as the leading future industrial hub in southwestern Korea, where cutting-edge AI industries, renewable energy, and future education grow together.”
