전남소방본부가 부처님 오신 날을 앞두고 사찰 화재와 산불 등 각종 재난에 대비한 특별경계근무에 돌입한다.
전남소방본부는 오는 22일 오후 6시부터 26일 오전 9시까지 전남지역 모든 소방관서를 대상으로 특별경계근무를 실시한다고 밝혔다.
이번 특별경계근무에는 소방공무원 4천387명과 의용소방대원 1만153명 등 총 1만4천540명의 가용 인력이 투입된다.
또 소방차 842대와 헬기 1대, 소방정 1대 등 총 844대의 장비를 즉시 출동 가능한 상태로 유지하며 대형 재난 상황에 대비한다.
전남소방본부에 따르면 최근 5년간 부처님 오신 날 특별경계근무 기간 동안 전남지역에서는 총 64건의 화재가 발생했다. 이로 인해 사망 2명, 부상 1명 등의 인명피해와 약 3억3천600만 원의 재산피해가 발생한 것으로 집계됐다.
특히 부처님 오신 날 전후 시기는 건조한 날씨와 강한 바람으로 산불 위험이 커지는 데다, 연등 설치와 촛불 사용 증가, 사찰 방문객 집중 등이 겹치면서 화재 예방의 중요성이 더욱 커지고 있다.
이에 따라 전남소방은 지역 내 전통사찰 100개소를 대상으로 산불 취약 요인 점검과 관계인 화재안전컨설팅 등 선제적 예방활동을 강화한다.
또 주요 봉축행사장에는 소방력을 전진 배치하고 하루 1회 이상 기동순찰을 실시해 화기 취급 상태와 안전관리 실태를 집중 점검할 계획이다.
아울러 전 직원 비상연락망과 비상응소 체계를 유지하고, 재난 발생 시 관서장 중심의 현장 지휘체계를 즉시 가동해 초기 단계부터 충분한 소방력을 투입할 방침이다.
119종합상황실도 신고 증가에 대비해 상황관리 체계를 강화하고, 당직 의료기관과 약국 안내 등 응급의료 상담 지원도 확대 운영한다.
전남소방본부 관계자는 “부처님 오신 날 전후로 건조한 날씨와 사찰 방문객 증가로 화재 위험이 높아질 것으로 예상된다.”며 “빈틈없는 예방활동과 신속한 대응체계를 통해 도민의 생명과 재산 보호에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

전남소방본부 announced that it will launch a special emergency duty operation ahead of Buddha’s Birthday to prepare for temple fires, wildfires, and other large-scale disasters.
The special emergency duty period will be in effect at all fire stations across Jeollanam-do from 6 p.m. on May 22 to 9 a.m. on May 26.
During the period, a total of 14,540 personnel will be mobilized, including 4,387 firefighters and 10,153 volunteer firefighters.
In addition, 844 units of equipment — including 842 fire engines, one helicopter, and one fireboat — will be maintained in a state of immediate deployment to respond to any major emergency situation.
According to Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, a total of 64 fires occurred in Jeollanam-do during the special emergency duty periods for Buddha’s Birthday over the past five years. These incidents resulted in two deaths, one injury, and approximately KRW 336 million in property damage.
Authorities noted that the period surrounding Buddha’s Birthday typically brings increased wildfire risks due to dry weather and strong winds. The installation of lanterns, increased candle use, and large crowds visiting temples further heighten the importance of fire prevention efforts.
In response, Jeonnam Fire Headquarters plans to strengthen proactive prevention activities, including inspections of wildfire risk factors and fire safety consulting for officials at 100 traditional temples across the province.
Firefighting personnel will also be pre-deployed at major Buddhist celebration venues, while mobile patrols will be conducted at least once daily to inspect fire-handling conditions and overall safety management.
In addition, all staff members will remain under an emergency contact and rapid response system. In the event of a disaster, an on-site command system led by station chiefs will be activated immediately, with sufficient firefighting resources deployed from the initial stage to minimize damage.
The 119 Integrated Situation Room will also reinforce its emergency management system in preparation for an increase in reports and will expand emergency medical consultation services, including information on duty hospitals and pharmacies.
An official from Jeonnam Fire Headquarters stated, “With dry weather conditions and an increase in temple visitors expected around Buddha’s Birthday, the risk of fire is likely to rise. We will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of residents through thorough preventive activities and a rapid response system.”
