“기후행동의 섬, 고하도로 떠나는 가을 소풍”

기후에너지환경부 산하 국립호남권생물자원관(관장 박진영)은 오는 10월 18일(금) 오전 9시 30분부터 오후 5시까지, 목포시 고하도 야외정원에서 섬마을 주민들과 8개 기관이 함께하는 ‘2025년 기후행동인(IN) 고하도 썬셋 마켓’을 개최한다고 밝혔다.

지난해에 이어 두 번째로 열리는 이번 마켓은 섬 주민들이 직접 기획하고 운영하는 ‘참여형 기후행동 축제’로, 변화하는 기후위기 시대 속에서 섬과 도시, 사람과 생물이 함께 공존하는 지속가능한 삶의 방향을 제시한다.

행사장에서는 천 명의 생물다양성 보전 서약 이벤트, 폐그물 돗자리 대여, 어린이 환경 인형극 공연, 환경·생명 캐릭터 포토존, 시니어 생태그림 전시, 자원순환 체험 등 탄소중립 실천과 생태 감수성을 키우는 다채로운 프로그램이 운영된다.

특히 고하도 농부와 어부들은 고흥 연홍도, 진도 금호도 등 인근 섬 주민들과 함께 무화과·멸치·김부각 등 지역 먹거리 장터를 열고, 다회용기와 장바구니 사용을 장려하는 ‘친환경 마켓’을 펼친다.

또한 어린이 리사이클 장난감 마켓, 청년 보부상 플리마켓이 함께 열려 세대 간 소통의 장을 마련하고, ‘섬 이야기 특강’과 국가중요어업유산 2호 ‘뻘배 만들기 체험’을 통해 섬 고유의 생활문화를 체험할 수 있다.

정희록 국립호남권생물자원관 상생협력부장은 “고하도 썬셋 마켓이 단순한 행사를 넘어, 섬마을이 주도하는 복합 문화 축제로 자리 잡길 기대한다.”며 “가족과 함께 고하도에서 자연과 함께하는 여유로운 가을 소풍을 즐기시길 바란다.”고 말했다.

한편, 행사 당일 국립호남권생물자원관은 실내 전시관, 한국 섬 온실, 어린이 놀이터를 무료 개방하며, 실내 전시관 입장은 오후 4시 30분까지 가능하다.

“A Climate Action Island — A Relaxing Autumn Picnic to Goha-do”
National Honam Biological Resources Center to Host ‘2025 Climate Action IN Goha-do Sunset Market’ on October 18
The National Honam Biological Resources Center (Director Park Jin-young) under the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment announced that it will host the “2025 Climate Action IN Goha-do Sunset Market” on Friday, October 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at its outdoor garden on Goha-do Island in Mokpo City.
Now in its second year following its debut in 2024, the Goha-do Sunset Market is a community-led climate action festival organized and operated directly by island residents. The event aims to promote coexistence among islands, cities, humans, and nature, offering a vision for sustainable living in the era of climate crisis.
The venue will feature a variety of carbon-neutral and eco-friendly programs designed to enhance environmental awareness, including:
A “1,000 Biodiversity Pledges” event,
Upcycled mat rentals made from discarded fishing nets,
A children’s environmental puppet show,
Eco and life character photo zones,
An exhibition of ecological paintings by local senior residents, and
Hands-on recycling and resource circulation activities.
Local farmers and fishers from Goha-do will collaborate with residents from neighboring islands such as Yeonhong-do (Goheung) and Geumho-do (Jindo) to hold a local food market, offering regional specialties such as figs, anchovies, and crispy seaweed snacks (gim bugak). The market will encourage the use of reusable containers and shopping bags, promoting a “zero-waste” and eco-conscious lifestyle.
In addition, a children’s recycled toy market and a youth peddlers’ flea market will create opportunities for intergenerational communication, while cultural programs such as an “Island Story” special lecture and a hands-on experience making “ppeolbae,” a traditional mudflat fishing boat designated as Korea’s National Important Fisheries Heritage No. 2, will allow visitors to experience the unique island lifestyle and culture.
Jeong Hee-rok, Head of the Coexistence and Cooperation Division at the National Honam Biological Resources Center, said,
“We hope the Goha-do Sunset Market will grow beyond a one-time event to become a comprehensive cultural festival led by island communities,” adding,
“We invite families to visit Goha-do and enjoy a relaxing autumn picnic surrounded by nature.”
Meanwhile, on the day of the event, the National Honam Biological Resources Center will open its indoor exhibition hall, Korean Island Greenhouse, and children’s playground free of charge. Admission to the indoor exhibition hall will be available until 4:30 p.m.
