국립환경과학원 영산강물환경센터(센터장 이원석)는 24일 오전 센터 회의실에서 광주녹색환경지원센터(센터장 정석희)와 ‘광주 지역 물환경 조성 및 기후위기 대응’을 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.

이번 협약은 두 기관이 상호 신뢰를 바탕으로 지속가능한 물관리 체계 구축과 지역 차원의 기후 변화 대응 역량을 공동으로 높이기 위해 마련됐다.

주요 협약 내용은 물 환경 및 기후위기 대응 공동 연구 추진, 학술 교류 및 공동 학술행사 개최, 정보 공유 및 인적 교류 확대, 관련 공동사업 발굴 등이다.

양 기관은 향후 필요 시 협력 분야를 더욱 확대할 계획이다.

특히 지난 9월 준공된 ‘영산강수질측정센터’는 미량·미관리물질까지 정밀 분석할 수 있는 최신 수질분석 기반시설로, 이번 협약의 실행력과 성과 창출에 큰 역할을 할 것으로 기대되고 있다.

이원석 영산강물환경센터장은 “양 기관의 연구 인프라와 분석 역량이 더해지면 지역 물환경 관리가 한층 체계화될 것”이라며 “실질적인 성과를 만들어 광주·전남 수질 개선에 기여하겠다.”고 말했다.

정석희 광주녹색환경지원센터장 역시 “기후위기 시대에는 지역의 대응력이 곧 경쟁력”이라며 “현장 중심 협력으로 지속 가능한 물환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

“Opening a New Future for Water Environment”
Yeongsan River Water Environment Research Center and Gwangju Green Environment Support Center Sign MOU
The Yeongsan River Water Environment Research Center of the National Institute of Environmental Research (Director: Lee Won-seok) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Gwangju Green Environment Support Center (Director: Jung Seok-hee) on the morning of the 24th at the Center’s conference hall to jointly promote water environment initiatives and strengthen climate crisis response in the Gwangju region.
The agreement aims to build a sustainable water management system and enhance local capabilities to respond to climate change, based on mutual trust and cooperation between the two institutions.
Under the MOU, the two organizations will collaborate on joint research related to water environment and climate crisis response, promote academic exchanges and co-host scholarly events, share information and expand personnel exchanges, and discover additional joint projects. The scope of cooperation is expected to expand further as needed.
In particular, the newly built Yeongsan River Water Quality Measurement Center, completed in September, is equipped with cutting-edge analytical technology capable of detecting micro-pollutants and emerging contaminants. It is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the execution and effectiveness of this cooperation initiative.
Director Lee Won-seok of the Yeongsan River Water Environment Research Center stated,
“By combining the research infrastructure and analytical capabilities of both institutions, we expect to advance a more systematic water environment management system for the region. We will work to produce tangible outcomes that contribute to improved water quality in Gwangju and Jeonnam.”
Director Jung Seok-hee of the Gwangju Green Environment Support Center added,
“In the era of climate crisis, local resilience is key. We will continue to cooperate at the field level to create a sustainable regional water environment.”
