“천년의 불빛, 해남을 밝힌다”… 유네스코 세계무형유산 연등문화축제 개최

유네스코 세계무형문화유산으로 등재된 연등회의 가치를 군민들과 함께 나누는 ‘해남군민과 함께하는 연등문화축제’가 오는 5월 16일 해남군청 잔디마당에서 열린다.

이번 축제는 불교 전통문화의 계승과 군민 화합, 지역 공동체 회복의 의미를 담아 마련된 행사로, 체험행사부터 법요식, 점등식, 축하공연까지 다채로운 프로그램으로 진행된다.

행사는 이날 오후 3시부터 5시 45분까지 체험부스 운영으로 시작된다.
행사장에서는 전통 연등 만들기와 소원등 체험, 다양한 전통문화 프로그램 등이 운영되며 어린이와 가족 단위 군민들에게 특별한 추억을 선사할 예정이다.

이어 오후 6시부터 7시까지는 법요식 및 점등식이 열린다.
봉축의 의미를 담은 점등식에서는 부처님의 자비와 평화의 메시지를 군민들과 함께 나누며, 지역의 안녕과 화합을 기원하는 시간이 마련된다.

특히 이날 저녁 7시부터 8시까지 진행되는 축하공연에는 가수 윤수현을 비롯해 이병채, 박윤희, 박두수, 그리고 전통예술단체 굿마당 해원이 출연해 흥겨운 무대를 선보일 예정이다.

행사 관계자는 “연등은 단순한 불빛이 아니라 서로의 마음을 밝히는 희망과 치유의 상징”이라며 “군민 모두가 함께 어우러져 따뜻한 공동체의 정을 나누는 시간이 되길 바란다.”고 밝혔다.

한편 주최 측은 최근 침체된 지역 상권과 시장경제의 어려움을 고려해 올해는 시가행진을 진행하지 않기로 결정했다고 설명했다.

대신 군민들이 한자리에 모여 문화와 전통을 함께 즐기며 지역 공동체의 의미를 되새기는 화합 중심 행사로 축제를 운영할 방침이다.

The “Lantern Culture Festival with the Citizens of Haenam,” celebrating the values of the Yeondeunghoe (Lotus Lantern Festival), which is inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, will be held on May 16 at the lawn plaza of Haenam County Office.
The festival has been organized to preserve Buddhist traditional culture while promoting unity among residents and revitalizing the local community. The event will feature a variety of programs including cultural experience booths, a Buddhist ceremonial service, a lantern lighting ceremony, and celebratory performances.
The event will begin with experience booths operating from 3:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Visitors will be able to participate in traditional lantern-making activities, wish lantern experiences, and various cultural programs, offering special memories for children and families.
From 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., a Buddhist service and lantern lighting ceremony will take place.
The lighting ceremony, symbolizing Buddha’s compassion and peace, will serve as a meaningful occasion for residents to pray together for harmony, well-being, and peace within the community.
In particular, the congratulatory performance scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. will feature singer Yoon Soo-hyun along with Lee Byeong-chae, Park Yoon-hee, Park Doo-soo, and the traditional performance troupe Gutmadang Haewon, presenting an exciting and festive stage.
An event official stated, “Lanterns are not simply lights, but symbols of hope and healing that brighten one another’s hearts,” adding, “We hope this festival becomes a warm and meaningful gathering where all residents can come together as one community.”
Meanwhile, the organizers explained that this year’s street parade has been canceled in consideration of the recent economic difficulties faced by local merchants and traditional markets.
Instead, the festival will focus on community harmony, allowing residents to gather in one place to enjoy culture and tradition together while reflecting on the meaning of local unity.
