“가짜정보와의 전면전”… 민형배 캠프, 허위사실 유포 ‘무관용 고발’ 선언

더불어민주당 전남·광주통합특별시장 경선 후보인 민형배 국회의원(광주 광산구을) 측 민심캠프가 허위사실 유포 행위에 대해 ‘무관용 원칙’을 천명하며 전면 대응에 나섰다.

민심캠프는 26일 공식 보도자료를 통해 “근거 없는 비방과 허위사실을 조직적으로 유포하는 행위에 대해 추가 고발을 포함한 강력한 법적 대응을 이어갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.

캠프 측은 “최근 일부 언론 기사와 인터넷 커뮤니티 게시글을 인용하거나 왜곡해 후보자를 낙선시킬 목적으로 사실과 다른 내용을 광범위하게 퍼뜨리는 정황이 확인되고 있다”며 “이는 단순한 의견 표출을 넘어 명예훼손이자 공직선거법 위반에 해당하는 중대한 범죄 행위”라고 규정했다.

앞서 민심캠프는 ▲악의적 비방 및 허위사실이 포함된 언론 기사 유포 ▲예비경선 득표율을 조작한 이른바 ‘찌라시’ 유포 사건 등 2건에 대해 공직선거법 위반 혐의로 고소·고발을 진행했다.
현재 수사당국은 해당 사건들을 병합해 본격적인 수사에 착수한 상태다.

그러나 캠프 측에 따르면, 일부 SNS와 온라인 커뮤니티를 중심으로 허위 정보 유포 행위가 여전히 지속되고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
특히 ‘신천지 연루설’ 등 이미 사실무근으로 확인됐거나 후보자와 무관한 사안을 악의적으로 재가공해 확산시키는 사례가 반복되고 있어 선거 공정성을 심각하게 훼손하고 있다는 지적이다.

민심캠프 관계자는 “민주주의의 근간인 선거를 혼탁하게 만드는 행위에 대해 수사당국의 신속하고 엄정한 대응이 필요하다”며 “캠프 역시 채증된 자료를 토대로 추가 유포자까지 끝까지 추적해 법적 책임을 묻겠다.”고 강조했다.

이어 “허위 정보는 단순한 루머가 아니라 유권자의 판단을 왜곡하는 중대한 범죄”라며 “어떠한 경우에도 관용 없이 대응하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

한편 민심캠프는 카카오톡 오픈채팅방에 ‘허위 거짓정보 제보 센터’를 개설하고 시민 제보를 접수 중이다.
캠프는 확보된 증거를 바탕으로 2차, 3차 추가 고발을 이어가며 허위정보 유통 차단에 총력을 기울일 방침이다.

The campaign team of Min Hyung-bae, a candidate in the Democratic Party primary for the integrated Jeonnam–Gwangju Metropolitan City mayor, has announced a full-scale response under a “zero-tolerance policy” against the spread of false information.
In an official statement released on the 26th, the campaign said it would pursue strong legal action, including additional complaints and prosecutions, against those who systematically disseminate baseless slander and false claims.
The campaign stated, “We have identified cases where distorted or misleading information—often citing or manipulating media reports and online community posts—is being widely spread with the intent of influencing the election outcome.” It added, “This goes beyond the expression of opinion and constitutes serious criminal conduct, including defamation and violations of the Public Official Election Act.”
Previously, the campaign filed complaints and accusations in two cases:
▲ the distribution of malicious and false media content about the candidate
▲ the circulation of so-called “rumors” manipulating preliminary primary vote percentages
Authorities have since merged these cases and launched a full-scale investigation.
However, according to the campaign, the spread of false information continues across certain social media platforms and online communities. In particular, distorted claims such as alleged “ties to Shincheonji”—which have already been proven groundless or unrelated to the candidate—are being maliciously edited and redistributed, severely undermining the fairness of the election.
A campaign official emphasized, “We strongly urge investigative authorities to respond swiftly and strictly to such acts that corrupt the integrity of democratic elections,” adding, “We will also track down all additional distributors based on collected evidence and hold them fully accountable under the law.”
The official further stated, “False information is not merely a rumor—it is a serious crime that distorts voters’ judgment. We will respond without any leniency under any circumstances.”
Meanwhile, the campaign has launched a “False Information Reporting Center” via an open chat room on KakaoTalk, encouraging citizens to submit tips. Based on collected evidence, the campaign plans to continue filing second and third rounds of complaints to curb the spread of misinformation.
