“생물 분야 연구자의 길을 듣다”… 국립호남권생물자원관, 진로 토크 콘서트 성황

기후에너지환경부 산하 국립호남권생물자원관(관장 박진영)이 생물 분야 진로를 꿈꾸는 청년들과 학생들을 위해 마련한 ‘생물 분야 진로 토크 콘서트’가 성황리에 개최됐다.

국립호남권생물자원관은 지난 5월 29일 자원관 대강당에서 『생물 분야 진로 토크 콘서트 – 대학생·대학원생 대상 연구기관 취업 이야기』를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사에는 전남대학교와 순천대학교 재학생을 비롯해 목포고등학교, 목포여자고등학교, 남악고등학교 학생 등 생물 분야 진로에 관심 있는 대학생과 고등학생 약 90명이 참석해 높은 관심을 보였다.

토크 콘서트에는 국립농업과학원, 국립수목원, 국립중앙과학관, 국립호남권생물자원관, 농림축산검역본부 등 국내 주요 연구기관에서 활동 중인 현직 연구자들이 참여해 생물 분야 연구직 진출 과정과 취업 준비 전략, 연구 경험 등을 공유했다.

발표에 나선 김다솜 연구사는 자신만의 연구 주제와 관심 분야를 지속적으로 발전시켜 나가는 과정의 중요성을 강조했으며, 박보선 연구사는 다양한 연구 분야 경험을 통해 폭넓은 시야를 갖추는 것이 연구자의 경쟁력이 될 수 있다고 조언했다.

또한 신상현 연구사는 검역 분야의 다양한 채용 경로와 진출 기회를 소개하며 적극적인 도전을 당부했고, 길희영 연구사는 학부 시절 자격증 취득과 전문 역량 강화를 통해 국가기관 연구직 채용 경쟁력을 높일 수 있다고 설명했다.

김무성 전임연구원은 “생물 연구 분야는 매우 다양하고 세분화되어 있는 만큼 여러 분야를 경험하며 자신에게 맞는 진로를 폭넓게 탐색하는 자세가 중요하다”고 말했다.

행사에 참석한 학생들의 반응도 뜨거웠다.
취업을 준비 중인 김승준 씨는 “희망하는 연구기관에서 실제 근무하고 있는 연구자들로부터 구체적인 합격 전략과 준비 과정을 들을 수 있어 매우 유익했다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

이한별 씨 역시 “연구기관 취업을 준비하며 궁금했던 부분들을 현직 연구자들의 생생한 경험담을 통해 들을 수 있어 앞으로 진로를 설계하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것 같다.”고 말했다.

국립호남권생물자원관 관계자는 “이번 토크 콘서트가 생물 분야 진로를 고민하는 학생들에게 실질적인 정보를 제공하고 미래 연구 인재 양성에 도움이 되는 계기가 되길 바란다.”며 “앞으로도 청소년과 대학생을 대상으로 다양한 진로 탐색 프로그램을 지속적으로 운영할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

Current researchers share career planning advice and employment strategies for research institutions
The National Institute of Biological Resources of the Honam Region (President Park Jin-young), affiliated with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, successfully hosted a “Biological Sciences Career Talk Concert” designed for students and young people aspiring to pursue careers in the biological sciences.
The institute announced that it held the “Biological Sciences Career Talk Concert – Employment Stories from Research Institutions for University and Graduate Students” at its main auditorium on May 29.
The event attracted approximately 90 participants, including undergraduate students from Chonnam National University and Sunchon National University, as well as high school students from Mokpo High School, Mokpo Girls’ High School, and Namak High School who are interested in careers in biological sciences.
The talk concert featured active researchers from major national research institutions, including the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Korea National Arboretum, National Science Museum, National Institute of Biological Resources of the Honam Region, and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency. They shared their experiences in entering research careers, preparing for employment, and conducting scientific research.
Researcher Kim Da-som emphasized the importance of continuously developing one’s own research themes and areas of interest. Researcher Park Bo-seon highlighted the value of gaining experience in diverse research fields to broaden one’s perspective and strengthen competitiveness as a researcher.
Researcher Shin Sang-hyun introduced various recruitment pathways and career opportunities in the quarantine field, encouraging students to actively pursue challenges. Researcher Gil Hee-young explained that obtaining professional certifications and strengthening specialized competencies during undergraduate studies can be advantageous when applying for research positions in government institutions.
Kim Moo-sung, a research fellow, noted that biological research is highly diverse and specialized, emphasizing the importance of exploring a wide range of fields in order to discover a suitable career path.
Participants expressed strong satisfaction with the event.
Kim Seung-jun, who is currently preparing for employment, said, “It was extremely valuable to hear specific strategies and preparation processes directly from researchers working at institutions where I hope to be employed in the future.”
Another participant, Lee Han-byeol, commented, “Listening to the firsthand experiences of researchers answered many of my questions about employment at research institutions and will greatly help me in planning my future career.”
An official from the National Institute of Biological Resources of the Honam Region stated, “We hope this talk concert provided practical information for students considering careers in biological sciences and served as an opportunity to foster future research talent. We plan to continue offering various career exploration programs for both high school and university students.”
