조국혁신당 서해근 해남군수 예비후보가 11일 전격적으로 예비후보직 사퇴를 선언하면서 해남군수 선거 구도가 중대한 변곡점을 맞고 있다.

정가에서는 이번 사퇴로 인해 해남군수 선거가 사실상 무소속 박지원 예비후보와의 1대1 대결 구도로 재편되는 것 아니냐는 분석이 나오고 있다.

서 예비후보는 이날 군민들에게 보낸 입장문을 통해 “새로운 해남, 더 살기 좋은 해남을 만들겠다는 뜨거운 신념으로 시작했던 저의 걸음을 오늘 잠시 멈추려 한다.”며 해남군수 출마 포기를 공식 선언했다.

그는 “지난 한 달여간 예비후보로서 현장을 누비며 전해주신 군민 여러분의 따뜻한 손잡음과 지지는 제 인생에서 가장 벅찬 감동이었다.”고 밝혔다.

특히 해남의 현실과 민생 문제에 대한 깊은 고민도 함께 드러냈다.

서 예비후보는 “우리 해남은 전남에서 가장 넓은 땅이지만 군민들의 삶은 갈수록 좁아지고 빠듯해지고 있다.”며 “농사는 지어도 남는 게 없고, 어르신들은 병원 가는 길이 갈수록 멀어지는 현실 속에서 저는 ‘말’이 아닌 ‘결과’로 책임지는 살림꾼이 되고 싶었다.”고 강조했다.

이어 “읍·면마다 찾아가는 의료와 행정을 정례화하고, ‘농사는 군민이, 판로는 군이 책임지는’ 대전환을 꿈꾸었다”며 “거리가 불이익이 되지 않는 해남, 어디에 살든 차별받지 않는 해남을 만들고 싶었다.”고 밝혔다.

그는 “비록 오늘 잠시 설계도를 접지만 그 속에 담긴 해남 사랑만은 결코 변치 않을 것”이라며 “앞으로도 어느 진영이 아닌 오직 ‘해남 편’에 서서 군민의 삶을 지키는 일에 더 낮은 자세로 헌신하겠다.”고 말했다.

또한 “비록 선거 혁명의 길을 직접 끝까지 함께하지는 못하지만 조국혁신당 지역위원장으로서 진보와 개혁, 혁신의 가치는 멈추지 않고 이어가겠다.”고 덧붙였다.
이번 사퇴는 단순한 후보 사퇴를 넘어 해남 정치지형 변화에도 적잖은 영향을 미칠 전망이다.

특히 지역 정치권에서는 조국혁신당 지지층과 중도 성향 표심이 향후 어느 방향으로 이동할지에 촉각을 곤두세우고 있다.
정가 일각에서는 이번 결정으로 해남군수 선거가 기존 다자 구도에서 벗어나 무소속 박지원 예비후보와의 사실상 양강 구도로 압축될 가능성이 커졌다는 분석도 제기된다.

한편 서 예비후보는 입장문 말미에서 “함께 해주신 모든 분께 무한한 감사를 드린다.”며 “더 노력하고, 더 깊이 고민하며 해남의 내일을 위해 늘 곁에 있겠다.”고 밝혔다.

In a statement addressed to county residents, Seo declared, “Today, I am choosing to pause the journey I began with the passionate belief of creating a new and better Haenam,” officially announcing his decision to give up his candidacy.
He added, “The warm handshakes and support from residents during the past month of campaigning across the region have been the most overwhelming and touching experience of my life.”
Seo also revealed his deep concerns about Haenam’s realities and the struggles faced by local residents.
“Haenam may be the largest county in Jeollanam-do in terms of land area, but the lives of our residents are becoming increasingly difficult and constrained,” he said. “Farmers work hard yet gain little profit, and elderly residents face ever-longer journeys to receive medical care. Knowing this reality better than anyone, I wanted to become a practical administrator who delivers results, not just words.”
He continued, “I dreamed of institutionalizing mobile healthcare and administrative services for every town and township, and creating a major transformation where ‘farmers focus on farming while the county takes responsibility for sales and distribution.’ I wanted to build a Haenam where distance is never a disadvantage and no resident is discriminated against based on where they live.”
Seo emphasized that although he was temporarily folding away his blueprint for change, “my love for Haenam will never change.” He pledged, “Going forward, I will continue to dedicate myself humbly to protecting the lives of our residents, standing not for any political camp, but only for Haenam.”
He also stated, “Although I will not continue this electoral revolution to the end myself, as the regional chair of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, I will continue pursuing the values of progress, reform, and innovation that I have sought to realize.”
Political analysts expect the withdrawal to have a significant impact on Haenam’s political landscape beyond the simple departure of one candidate.
Local political circles are closely watching how supporters of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party and moderate voters may realign following Seo’s decision.
Some analysts predict that the Haenam mayoral election, previously viewed as a multi-candidate race, may now effectively narrow into a two-way showdown centered around independent candidate Park Ji-won.
